Generative AI Policy

Jurnal Al-Allamah recognizes the increasing use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI) and AI-assisted technologies in academic research and scholarly publishing. These technologies may provide useful assistance in research, manuscript preparation, language improvement, and other scholarly activities. However, their use must be transparent, responsible, ethical, and subject to appropriate human oversight.

This policy applies to authors, reviewers, editors, and other individuals involved in the publication process of Jurnal Al-Allamah. The policy may be updated periodically in response to developments in AI technologies, research integrity standards, and scholarly publishing practices.

1. Use of Generative AI by Authors

Authors may use Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies to support certain aspects of manuscript preparation, including:

  • improving language, grammar, spelling, and readability;
  • organizing ideas or sections of a manuscript;
  • assisting with translation;
  • assisting in literature exploration or identifying potentially relevant sources;
  • supporting data analysis, coding, or other research procedures when appropriate to the research methodology.

However, Generative AI must not replace the author's intellectual contribution, critical thinking, scholarly judgment, or responsibility for the research.

Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, integrity, interpretation, and ethical compliance of their manuscripts.

Authors must carefully verify all AI-generated content, including factual claims, quotations, interpretations, references, and citations. AI-generated references may contain inaccurate, incomplete, or fabricated information and must therefore be independently checked by the authors.

2. Disclosure of Generative AI Use

Authors must disclose the use of Generative AI or AI-assisted technologies when such tools have been used substantively in the preparation of the manuscript.

The disclosure should identify:

  1. the name of the AI tool or service;
  2. the purpose for which it was used; and
  3. the extent of the author's use and human oversight.

The disclosure should be included in a separate section of the manuscript before the references, with the following heading:

Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies

Authors may use the following format:

During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [NAME OF AI TOOL/SERVICE] for [PURPOSE]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as necessary and take full responsibility for the content of the published article.

Basic use of conventional spelling, grammar, punctuation, or reference-management tools does not require disclosure, provided that such tools do not generate or substantially modify the intellectual content of the manuscript.

When AI-assisted technologies are used as part of the research methodology, such use must be described appropriately in the Methods or relevant methodological section of the manuscript.

3. AI Tools and Authorship

Generative AI tools, including ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, or other similar technologies, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to or published by Jurnal Al-Allamah.

Authorship requires intellectual contribution, accountability for the work, the ability to approve the final manuscript, and responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the research. These responsibilities can only be assumed by human authors.

Authors are therefore fully accountable for all content generated or assisted by AI technologies that appears in their manuscripts.

4. Academic Integrity and Responsible Use

The use of Generative AI must not result in:

  • plagiarism;
  • fabrication or falsification of data;
  • fabrication of references or citations;
  • misrepresentation of sources;
  • infringement of copyright or intellectual property rights;
  • manipulation of research findings;
  • inappropriate appropriation of another person's ideas;
  • concealment of substantive AI assistance; or
  • any other form of academic or publication misconduct.

Authors must ensure that AI-assisted content represents their own scholarly contribution and does not compromise the originality and integrity of the manuscript.

Jurnal Al-Allamah reserves the right to request clarification regarding the use of Generative AI when concerns arise regarding the originality, accuracy, authorship, or integrity of a submitted manuscript.

5. Use of Generative AI by Reviewers

Peer reviewers must treat all submitted manuscripts and associated materials as strictly confidential.

Reviewers must not upload, copy, paste, or otherwise transfer submitted manuscripts, reviewer reports, unpublished research, or confidential information into publicly accessible Generative AI tools.

Generative AI must not be used to replace the reviewer's independent scholarly judgment, critical evaluation, or assessment of the manuscript.

If AI-assisted tools are used for limited purposes, such as language improvement of a review report, reviewers remain fully responsible for the content, accuracy, confidentiality, and scholarly judgment expressed in their reports.

Reviewers must disclose substantive use of Generative AI to the editor when applicable.

6. Use of Generative AI by Editors

Editors must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and all communications related to the editorial process.

Editors must not upload submitted manuscripts, confidential reviewer reports, or other unpublished materials into publicly accessible Generative AI systems.

Generative AI must not replace the editor's independent judgment in evaluating manuscripts or making editorial decisions.

Editors remain fully responsible for editorial decisions, peer-review management, communication with authors and reviewers, and maintaining the integrity of the publication process.

AI-assisted tools may only be used in a supportive manner where confidentiality is maintained and human oversight remains in place.

7. Generative AI and Images, Figures, and Artwork

Authors must clearly disclose the use of Generative AI in creating or substantially modifying images, figures, illustrations, or other visual materials submitted for publication.

Such use must comply with applicable copyright, intellectual property, licensing, and ethical requirements.

Jurnal Al-Allamah may request additional information concerning the origin and production process of AI-assisted images or figures when necessary.

AI-generated images must not be used to fabricate, manipulate, or misrepresent research evidence or findings.

8. Verification and Human Responsibility

Generative AI systems can produce inaccurate, biased, incomplete, or fabricated information. Therefore, authors, reviewers, and editors must exercise appropriate human judgment and verification.

The use of Generative AI does not transfer responsibility for scholarly content to the technology or its developer. All individuals involved in the publication process remain responsible for their respective contributions and decisions.

9. Breach of this Policy

Failure to disclose substantive use of Generative AI, misuse of AI-generated content, fabrication of references or information, violation of confidentiality, or other forms of inappropriate AI use may be considered a breach of Jurnal Al-Allamah's publication ethics.

Depending on the circumstances, the journal may:

  • request an explanation or clarification;
  • require correction of the manuscript;
  • reject the manuscript;
  • retract or correct a published article;
  • notify the author's institution when appropriate; or
  • take other actions consistent with the journal's publication ethics and applicable scholarly publishing standards.

10. Policy Review

Jurnal Al-Allamah will periodically review this policy to ensure that it remains consistent with developments in Generative AI, research integrity, publication ethics, and international standards of scholarly publishing.
